The SPYDERCO SCFB35PBK ARK, also known as the “Always Ready Knife,” is a purpose-designed personal-defense knife with a fascinating and meaningful history. Created by U.S. Army combat veteran John Shirley, this exceptional knife was born out of a genuine need to protect forward-deployed troops from the threat of sexual assault in the shower facilities during their missions in Afghanistan. John Shirley’s vision of a small, lightweight, and rustproof neck knife led to the collaboration with his talented friend Sam Owens, and eventually, with the renowned knife manufacturer, Spyderco, resulting in the creation of the ARK.

The heart of the ARK lies in its deeply curved clip-point blade, meticulously ground from H1 stainless steel, which is a nitrogen-based alloy that offers complete immunity to rust.
The clip profile of the blade ensures an efficient energy transfer during thrusts and provides a strong, extremely sharp point, enhancing its self-defense capabilities.
The ARK’s fiberglass-reinforced nylon (FRN) handle, molded directly onto the blade’s tang, offers an exceptional grip even in wet and soapy conditions, thanks to Spyderco’s Bi-Directional Texturing pattern.
For convenient and universal carry, the ARK comes with an injection-molded polymer sheath, which securely holds the knife even when inverted, providing a quick and reliable draw.
